Samsø´s private energy supply - Conclusion

Conclusion

Look at your concept maps from the beginning of the lesson plan series. Does anything need to be revised? Compare with the class you cooperate with, if applicable.

Discuss the presentations made by the groups - on either the web or on the data projector.

Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation compares in The future of energy in Australia (PDF file, page 2) the future energy resources in two different societies with different climates and natural resources.

External participants

  • Some of the pupils’ parents can be invited to take part in a debate for and against using more renewable energy in the home.
  • The management of the school or a representative from the local council can be invited to take part in a debate on using more renewable energy at the school.

Communication of learning outcome

  • Make a poster or a PowerPoint presentation on the interactive whiteboard where the use of renewable energy on Samsø and the pupils’ own homes is presented
  • Produce a leaflet for the pupils to bring home with advice on and arguments for the use of more renewable energy in the home.
  • Take action and let your pupils ask the headmaster to sign the school up for the ECO-Schools programme.

Evaluation of and conclusions on the lesson plan series

Evaluation takes place on several levels:

  • Have the pupils succeeded in understanding the concept of renewable energy? This aspect is evaluated via a revision of the pupils’ concept maps.
  • Do the pupils understand the issues around individuals’ utilisation of renewable energy on Samsø? This aspect is evaluated via the pupils’ posters, PowerPoints, wikis and weblogs.
  • Have the pupils become interested in renewable energy in their homes and at school? This aspect is evaluated by sending a questionnaire to the pupils’ homes or by contacting the management of the school or the local council.

It is an obvious idea to exchange conclusions with the class you have been cooperating with, if applicable.

Compare energy sources

Placemarker

The pupils can map out how their own homes are supplied with energy and can exchange information on energy sources with the class they are cooperating with.
