Target group – education and subjects

The target group for this lesson plan series is primary and lower secondary school pupils in the middle and oldest classes for science (physics/chemistry, biology and geography) – with opportunities for interdisciplinary cooperation.

Learning aims

The aim of the teaching is that the pupils:

  • know the difference between fossil energy and renewable energy
  • know about the carbon cycle
  • know the significance of CO2 on the green house effect
  • know the history and technology behind the utilisation of wind, solar and biofuel energy
  • can see energy supply as a part of their own everyday lives
  • achieve competence to act within the field of energy.

Technological resources required

  • Internet access - This lesson plan series is based on information from the Internet, so access to computers with Internet connection is essential.
  • Interactive whiteboard - it would be a major advantage if there is an interactive whiteboard in the classroom
  • The pupils should have access to using digital cameras.
  • The use of wikis is suggested for the pupils’ logbooks and communication with other classes.

International cooperation and projects

This lesson plan series lends itself to international cooperation with another class. There are several projects supporting school cooperation across borders
