Seminar for teachers and teacher trainers in Innsbruck
Seminar for teachers and teacher trainers in Innsbruck, Austria
Teacher Competencies for Education for Sustainable Development.
Teacher Education is a prerequisite for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) providing pupils and
adult learners with the skills and competencies they need to take part in creating a Sustainable
Development (SD) and for Lifelong Learning (LLL). This seminar highlights the competencies that teachers
and teacher trainers need in ESD.
Outcomes of, among other projects, the EU Comenius project “CSCT” (Curriculum, Sustainable
Development, Competences, Teacher Training), which aimed at developing a competency-based
curriculum for education for sustainable development in initial teacher training and in-service training
institutions, will serve as a starting point for the discussions.
The seminar participants will discuss how to systematically develop ESD competences and how to
implement ESD in Teacher Education. The results and findings of the seminar will help reorient the practice
of the teachers and teacher trainers towards new ways of teaching and learning ESD. One of the aims of
the seminar will also be to contribute to the design of a new Comenius project on the topic of competence
portfolio as a tool for fostering and demonstrating ESD and LLL competences.
