Residential Training Workshop on Universities & ESD, May 24th-28th 2010 in Amfissa, Greece.

The University of Athens MIO-ECSDE in cooperation with the Baltic University Programme (BUP) and the Environmental Education Centre (CEE) of Amfissa are organizing The Residential Training Workshop on Universities & Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) 24 – 28 May 2010 at the Centre of Environmental Education of Amfissa, Greece

This Training Workshop is following the successful implementation of the training course “Training in ESD through an inter-regional perspective: the Baltic Sea and Mediterranean regions" (6-12 October 2008, Uppsala) and is proposed within the framework of the  cooperation between the Baltic University Programme (BUP) and the Mediterranean Universities Network on Sustainable Development for SD focusing on ESD (MedUnNET).

The Seminar aims:  

  • To develop knowledge and competences on integrating ESD in University processes, curricula and activities within the framework of the UN Decade on ESD (2005-2014) and the UNECE Strategy on ESD. 
  • To explore the concepts of the “whole institute approach” and “sustainable university”.
  • To provide the opportunity to share experiences on ESD (educational practices, policies, research, etc.) and to work on particular case studies.

The Seminar will include:

  • Lectures and Presentations by invited experts
  • Workshops on case studies & experience exchanges 
  • Field visits.

Content – Main thematic areas

  • ESD at University Level
  • Criteria of the sustainable educational institute (university)
  • Curriculum & Programmes of Sustainable University (specific topics i.e. environmental management, wastewater and solid waste management, environmental integration in policies, social issues, economics, etc.)
  • Competencies & Training in ESD (UNESCO and UNECE guidelines, research development, etc.)
  • Governance & processes of Sustainable University & links with Society
  • Infrastructures of the Sustainable University

Links of academic research with the activities in EE/ESD Centres - Regional and local interaction on ESD.

The proceedings of the seminar will be prepared including key lectures, presentations and workshops’ results and will be disseminated to all participants.

When and where

Venue of the Seminar: is the Environmental Education Centre (CEE) of Amfissa.

Amfissa is a traditional city at a distance of 180km from Athens at the foot of Parnassus Mountain (Protected Area). Visits to the archaeological site of Deplhi, the coastal traditional community town of Galaxidi, etc. will be included in the programme.

Duration:

Arrivals: Sunday, 23 May (free day)
Departures: Friday, 28 May (after the morning session)
