La main à la pâte world-wide
La main à la pâte aims to renew and expand science teaching in primary education in France and to contribute to achieving this aim in a large number of countries.
La main à la pâte
From its inception in 1996, the national La main à la pâte (hands-on) French program for inquiry-based science education, coordinated by the French Academy of sciences with the support of the National Institute for Pedagogical Research and the École normale supérieure (Paris), in partnership with the Ministry of education, has met a large interest outside France.
Since 2000, numerous foreign delegations have been welcomed in France to visit classes and La main à la pâte pilot centres, and a large number of training sessions have been organised abroad. The experience and expertise of La main à la pâte have been spread among many countries, such as Argentina, Belgium, Cambodia, Cameroon, Chile, Colombia, Egypt, Germany, Morocco, Senegal, Serbia, Slovakia, Vietnam … Long-term partnerships with powerful emerging countries such as Brazil and China are also worth emphasizing. Actions on a more modest scale or just beginning shall be mentioned with Afghanistan, Iran, Mexico, Peru, Spain, Switzerland, Togo or the United States of America. All these collaborations are frequently formalized by memoranda of understanding and international agreements.
